The ATF cranes are the European face of Tadano: ATF stands for All Terrain Faun, because the cranes are built at the Lauf an der Pegnitz plant near Nuremberg, which Tadano took over in 1990 from the Franconian commercial-vehicle maker Faun. Since 2019 Demag Mobile Cranes of Zweibrücken has also belonged to Tadano; the two programmes were merged and younger models carry the AC designation. The register shows the classic ATF generation: the number gives the maximum capacity in tonnes, the G the generation with Tadano control and Euromot engines, the number after the hyphen the axle count – an ATF 100G-4 is a 100-tonner on four axles, an ATF 400G-6 a 400-tonner on six axles. Suffixes such as XL mark the long-boom version, RTF the rough-terrain cranes without road approval and AR the Japanese all-terrain models.

All-terrain cranes combine road travel at 80 km/h with off-road capability through all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering; Tadano's hallmarks are the single-engine drive on the medium models (one engine for travel and crane operation) and the Lift Adjuster against load swing.
Used ATFs are traded worldwide. When buying, operating hours separated into travel and crane operation, the condition of telescopic boom and locking, slew ring, outriggers, ropes and the inspection history under the crane rules of the respective country are what count.
