The Scania T143 is the bonneted version of the 3-series, which Scania built from 1988 to 1995 as successor to the 2-series; the T cab existed alongside the forward-control P, G, R and M cabs and remained sought after mainly in overseas markets with short-cab regulations. The type key follows Scania's logic: the first two digits after the series number give the displacement in tenths of a litre, so 14.2 litres for the 143 – the DSC14 V8 engine, also fitted in the forward-control cabs of the 3-series. The suffixes E, H and M on the cab variants and the axle formulas 4X2, 6X2 and 8X4 depend on the application and payload, from semi-trailer tractor to three-axle construction vehicle.
