Saab-Scania SBA 111 – The Swedish Off-Road Truck Tgb 30
The SBA111 is a military 4x4 cross-country truck developed by the Scania division of Saab-Scania for the Swedish armed forces, who designated it Terrängbil 30 (Tgb 30). It was powered by an 11-litre diesel engine from the first-generation "Special Bulldog Allwheeldrive" family. Testing began in 1971, and in 1975 Scania was awarded a SEK 1.5 billion order. By the time production stopped in 1981, about 1,700 SBA111s and 800 units of the three-axle 6x6 variant SBAT111S (Terrängbil 40, Tgb 40) with a supercharged 11-litre engine had been delivered to the army, air force and navy; production resumed in 1986 following an Indian order. More than 50 years after its introduction, some vehicles remain in service. Listed in the register: the Saab-Scania SBA 111.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
