Scania, headquartered in Södertälje, has belonged to the Volkswagen group's Traton division since 2018 and has built heavy trucks in Sweden since the 1911 merger of Vabis and Scania. The LT series belongs to an early generation of heavy Scania chassis in which the L designation denotes the basic lorry version; models such as the LT 111, LT 111S 38 and LT 146 (S) 38-6X4/3800+1350 show how engine, drive formula and wheelbase combine in the type designation. The chassis are driven throughout by in-line six-cylinder engines of between eleven and just over fourteen litres, supplied depending on version as two-axle rigids or as 6X4 three-axle trucks with a trailer hitch.
