Renault RX42 T – a heavy tractor-unit series with up to 390 kW: 12.8-litre displacement, kerb weights 7,642 to 8,094 kg, diesel only, long-haul segment
Renault RX42 T is a series of heavy trucks from the French maker Renault, which sells its heavy commercial vehicles under the Renault Trucks brand. Renault Trucks grew out of RVI (Renault Véhicules Industriels), founded in 1978 to merge the truck divisions of Berliet and Saviem, and has been part of the Swedish Volvo Group since 2001, with plants including Blainville-sur-Orne and Bourg-en-Bresse. The model suffixes R, T LOL, T MEEF, T MEL and T XLL denote individual equipment and chassis variants within the register, letting hauliers match the tractor unit to their operating profile.

The register lists 5 versions here with 330 to 390 kW from a 12,800 cm³ engine and kerb weights from 7,642 to 8,094 kg, all with diesel engines.
With up to 390 kW – well over 500 hp converted – and a kerb weight typical of a tractor unit, the RX42 T ranks among the most powerful tractor units for heavy and long-haul transport with a semi-trailer, where Renault Trucks competes with Volvo, Scania, MAN, DAF and Mercedes-Benz; driving with a trailer or semi-trailer requires an EU category CE licence.
For a used example, check the chassis and axles for corrosion and wear, clutch and gearbox condition, engine mileage and service history, the operation of the air brake system and fifth-wheel coupling, and the state of the suspension and cab mounts; parts run through the Renault Trucks dealer network.
