The Vivaro emerged in 2001 as a joint project between General Motors, Renault and Nissan, sold in near-identical technical form as the Renault Trafic and Nissan Primastar, and built at the British plant in Luton. The second generation from 2014 remained Renault-based before the third generation switched, in 2019 after PSA Group's takeover of Opel, to the French EMP2 platform, which the Vivaro has since shared with the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy. Model designations with L1/L2 and H1/H2, as on the larger Movano, denote wheelbase and roof-height variants, with weight classes between 2.7 and 3.1 tonnes.
