In the 1950s and 1960s the Blitz was one of the best-selling trucks in West Germany and, as a tradesman's, fire-brigade and municipal vehicle, helped shape the streetscape; Blitz production at Opel ended in 1975.

Spare parts are now only available through classic-vehicle specialists and as newly manufactured parts.
