New Holland TS and TSA – the Basildon mid-range 1997–2007: TS 90 to TS 115 with Ford engines, TS 100A to TS 135A with NEF six-cylinders, the forerunners of the T6000, 61 to 119 kW

The TS range was New Holland's mid-range from the Basildon plant in Essex – the old Ford tractor works that has built the blue tractors since the 1991 merger. Two generations appear in the register: the TS 90, TS 100 and TS 115 of 1997 to 2003 continued the Ford 40 line, with four-cylinders of the Ford New Holland engine family and plain equipment that made them the standard tractor for grassland and arable farming. The TSA generation of 2003 to 2007 – TS 100A, TS 110A, TS 115A, TS 125A and TS 135A – brought the NEF six-cylinders from the group's tie-up with Iveco, the Horizon cab and powershift steps; it was the direct forerunner of the T6000 range. The number roughly gives the output in hp, A the second generation, 4WD four-wheel drive; the long registration codes in the register come from vehicle registers.

The register lists 14 versions with 61.4 to 119 kW from four- and six-cylinders of 4,485 to 7,490 cm³, unladen weights from 4,660 to 6,800 kg, gross weights from 7,500 to 8,700 kg and widths from 2,200 to 2,600 mm.

The TSAs are regarded as one of New Holland's most robust generations: NEF engine without aftertreatment, mechanical injection on the entry model, cab with all-round view – reasons for their popularity on the used market to this day.

On used tractors, operating hours, the condition of engine and powershift (clutch packs), hydraulics and front axle, the electronics of the linkage control and, on the early TS, the cab mounts are what count.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
