Lift King of Woodbridge near Toronto has built rough-terrain forklifts since 1970 – forklifts with big wheels, all-wheel drive and high ground clearance that run on construction sites, in timber yards, quarries and with the military, where a warehouse truck would bog down. The type logic follows the North American convention: LK stands for Lift King, the number gives the capacity in thousands of pounds – an LK10M22 carries 10,000 lb, an LK16M42 16,000 lb – M and P mark the mast type, the final 22 or 44 the lift height in feet or version variants; the L-XD range (L180XDS to L350XD) gives the capacity in hundreds of pounds – so L350XD is 35,000 lb – XD stands for Extreme Duty, S for the version with side-shifting mast. RT50 to RT80 are rough-terrain models with capacity in hundreds of pounds, LK43K and LK-AF13 special versions, the latter for aircraft loading.

Lift King has remained one of the few specialists of the class – alongside Manitou, JCB and the military suppliers – and builds the trucks in small numbers, often to customer order with container handling, side mast or military equipment.
On used trucks, operating hours, play in mast and axles, the condition of all-wheel drive and differentials, tyres and forks and parts supply, which runs through the Perkins and GM networks for the engines, are what count.
