Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone grew out of the blacksmith's business Bernard Krone founded in Spelle in 1906; after years of building agricultural machinery, the commercial vehicle division for trailers and semi-trailers was set up in 1971 at the new Werlte plant. The AZW range covers the brand's trailers in the register; on models such as AZW 18 and AZW 20, the number in the type designation matches the gross weight in tonnes.
