Komatsu's articulated haulers carry two codes: HA for the range of the 1990s (HA250-3, HA270-3) and HM for the generation from 2001 (HM300, HM350, HM400), with which Komatsu seriously attacked the market of the 30 to 40 tonners. The number gives the payload in tenths of a tonne – HM300 carries about 30 t, HM350 35 t, HM400 40 t – the digit after the hyphen the generation from -1 to -5, where the -5 brings Stage IV; M0 is a market variant. The engines are Komatsu's own six-cylinders from the excavator programme: S6D125 and SAA6D125 with 11 litres in the HM300, SAA6D140 with 15.2 litres in the HM350 and HM400.

On used trucks, operating hours, play in articulation joint and oscillation bearings, the condition of body cylinders, brakes and transmission and the tyres, which are the biggest cost item on these vehicles, are what count; parts run through Komatsu dealers worldwide.
