The Imr Rakovica 47 is a tractor from the Rakovica series. The engine is rated at 35 kW.

It runs on diesel; the engine is water-cooled. Within the range, rated power spans from 35 to 89 kW; with 35 kW, the Rakovica 47 sits at the bottom end. The next one up is the Rakovica 50 DV with 37 kW.

IMR Rakovica – the tractors of the Belgrade engine works: Rakovica 47 to 120, the number as hp, DV for four-wheel drive, Super and K for cab, Perkins-licence engines of its own manufacture, 35 to 89 kW

IMR – Industrija motora Rakovica – was the engine works in the Belgrade district of Rakovica that built Perkins diesel engines under licence from the 1950s and supplied the sister company IMT with engines; from the 1960s IMR also built its own tractors, which formed the second Yugoslav brand alongside IMT and were built into the 2010s. The type logic: the number gives the output in hp – Rakovica 47, 50, 60, 65, 75, 76 and 120 – DV stands for dvostruka vuča, four-wheel drive, Super for the revised version, K for the version with cab, Standard for plain equipment, BS and -12 for upgrade levels; the Transporter 60 is the version with load platform for mountain farms and municipalities. The engines come from in-house production – three- and four-cylinders of the Perkins family, recorded in the register as IMR DM34 and S44.

The register lists 13 versions with 35 to 89 kW (47 to 120 hp) from three- and four-cylinders at rated speeds of 2,300 to 2,600 rpm – all diesel.

The Rakovica tractors were simpler and cheaper than the IMT and were the tractors of small farms in Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro; the Perkins kinship of the engines keeps them repairable to this day because pistons, liners and injection parts are interchangeable with the English originals.

Used Rakovicas are numerous and cheap in the Western Balkans; when buying, engine condition, gearbox and clutch, hydraulics and the front axle on DV models count; parts come from Serbia and through Perkins remanufacturers.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
