Hitachi's wheeled excavators are the wheeled versions of the Zaxis range for the European market, where the excavator on wheels is the standard machine in road and sewer work; the EX60WD-2 of the 1990s stands at the start, the Zaxis models from 2001 form the programme. The type logic: ZX stands for Zaxis, the number gives the weight class in hundreds of kilograms – ZX130W about 13 t, ZX170W 17 t, ZX210W 21 t – W for Wheel, the wheeled excavator, the digit after the hyphen the generation: -3 from 2006 with Stage IIIA, -6 from 2016 with Stage IV. The engines come from Isuzu – 4BG1 and 6BG1 in the early, 4HK1 and 4JJ1 in the younger models – as in all Hitachi excavators.
