The MB range was DAF's heavy truck programme of the 1960s and 1970s; DAF, the Dutch commercial vehicle maker founded in Eindhoven in 1928, began building its own trucks in 1949. The letter and number combinations after the type number — such as DKCL, DKDL or DKFL — denote cab, wheelbase and equipment variants of the respective chassis combination; the follow-on MB 230 received a more powerful engine. DAF was later spun off as an independent company and has belonged to the US group PACCAR since 1996.
