Citroën Jumper – large panel van from the Sevel plant at Val di Sangro since 1994, sister model to the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer: L1–L3/H1–H3 body kit, 1.9 to 3.0-litre HDi diesels

The Jumper emerged in 1994 from the Sevel cooperation between PSA (Citroën/Peugeot) and Fiat at the Val di Sangro plant (Atessa, Italy) and is technically almost identical to the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer; the third generation has run since 2006 (facelifts in 2014 and 2019). Type designations in the register combine a weight-class number (27, 29, 30, 33, 35 for gross weight in hundreds above 3 tonnes), a length code (L1 to L3) and height code (H1 to H3), and the engine designation – HDi denotes the common-rail diesel used since 1999, older models still ran naturally aspirated (D) or turbo diesels (TD).

The register lists 294 versions with 62 to 120 kW output, displacements of 1,900 to 2,999 cm³ (all four-cylinder), unladen weights of 1,590 to 3,360 kg, gross weights of 2,223 to 3,510 kg and widths of 1,900 to 2,550 mm; only 30 length values are on record, ranging from 4,963 to 7,400 mm.

As a 3-tonne-class van the Jumper competes with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit, Renault Master and Volkswagen Crafter; the Sevel platform makes it technically near-identical to the Ducato and Boxer, which helps when sourcing parts or choosing a workshop.

On used examples, check rust at the sliding-door rails, wheel arches and floor, condition of the dual-clutch or manual gearbox, injectors and EGR valve on the HDi engines, timing-belt change intervals, and mileage relative to use (courier work, motorhome base, trade van).

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
