Case IH MX Magnum — the third step of a long line, 1999 to 2002, 133.9 to 205.2 kW and Operating Weight from 8,725 to 10,350 kg
The MX range is not a new design but a continuation of the Magnum concept. With it Case IH gave the visually ageing Magnum new life — the same base machine, revised appearance and equipment.

To place the MX models it helps to look back. The Magnum was presented in 1987 as successor to the International 50, with series production from 1988. The first 7100 range covered the 7110 to 7140 with a turbocharged six-cylinder of 8.3 litres and 155 to 230 hp rated output. In 1997 it became the 7200 range, closed at the top by the 7250.
The MX models carry their power in the name more directly than their predecessors: an MX 180 denotes the 180 hp class, an MX 240 correspondingly higher. That makes comparison within the range easier than with the four-digit numbers of the 7100 and 7200.
For the used market the long line means above all one thing: a Magnum is a well-known machine with a long parts history. Anyone examining an MX is examining a design that had already been in the field for over a decade by then — with everything that implies in experience and in wear.
With rated outputs from 133.9 to 205.2 kW, the MX Magnum models fell within ISO 730 Category III for the rear three-point hitch, with a standard dual-speed power take-off at 540 and 1,000 revolutions per minute for heavy implements.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
