Faun-Tadano ATF – all-terrain cranes from Lauf an der Pegnitz: 290 to 405 kW, six- to eight-cylinders of 11.9 to 15.9 litres displacement, 48 to 72 t vehicle weight

Faun-Tadano ATF denotes the all-terrain cranes (All Terrain Faun) from the plant in Lauf an der Pegnitz in Bavaria, where FAUN has built mobile cranes suited to both road and off-road travel since the 1980s. In 1990 the Japanese crane maker Tadano of Takamatsu took over FAUN's crane division and continued the range under the joint Faun-Tadano brand. The ATF cranes run on multi-axle chassis with all axles steered and driven, allowing them to reach their lifting capacity both on the motorway and on the unpaved ground of a construction site.

The register lists here 6 versions with 290 to 405 kW from six- to eight-cylinders of 11,946 to 15,928 cm³, vehicle weights from 48,000 to 72,000 kg, lengths from 12,385 to 15,983 mm and widths from 2,660 to 3,000 mm.

All-terrain cranes such as the ATF range are, alongside Liebherr and Grove, the reference in Europe for mobile lifting equipment in industrial and construction use, since they drive to the site without a special transport and there lift heavy loads using extendable outriggers and a telescopic boom.

On used ATF cranes, operating hours of the drivetrain and the crane works counted separately, the condition of the telescopic boom and winches, the sealing of the hydraulic cylinders, the function of the outriggers and the electronic load-moment limiter, and the inspection history under the regulations for lifting equipment count; spare parts run through Tadano service.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
