Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO) DT/B series – DT-205 B to DT-275 B: the top models of the big standard tractors, 176 to 235 kW, 11.7 t

The DT/B series formed the top of the big standard tractors at the Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO): the DT-205 B, DT-225 B, DT-250 B and DT-275 B were the most powerful versions in the DT family. The Allis-Gleaner Corporation emerged in 1990 from the management buyout of the farm-equipment division of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz, which had previously traded as Deutz-Allis, becoming the foundation of today's AGCO group.

The register lists here 4 versions with 176.5 to 235.4 kW from six-cylinders of 8,419 cm³ displacement, torque from 1,126 to 1,432 Nm at 2,200 rpm, an unladen weight of 11,720 kg, lengths from 5,479 to 5,670 mm, a width of 2,014 mm and heights from 3,380 to 3,581 mm – all with diesel engines.

With unladen weights approaching twelve tonnes and torque above 1,400 Nm, the DT/B series marked the top end of conventional, non-articulated standard tractors and targeted large operations with correspondingly heavy primary-tillage equipment such as chisel ploughs and heavy disc harrows.

Used, the DT/B series calls for checking the turbocharger and charge-air cooling under sustained high output, transmission and axle drive at the high weights, hydraulic pump and cooling system, and frame and implement mounts; brakes and tyres should also be checked for the weight class. Spare parts run through the AGCO organisation.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
