AEC Routemaster RMA10 – built 1965, a bus from the British maker AEC: 9.6-litre engine, weight 8,000 kg, length 8,400 mm
AEC Routemaster RMA10 comes from the British manufacturer AEC (Associated Equipment Company), based in Southall near London, which built the Routemaster for London Transport from the late 1950s onward, making it one of Britain's most recognisable line-service buses. The RMA version was a special series built for British European Airways' airport routes at London Airport, with bodywork adapted for that role and without the open rear platform typical of a city bus.

The register lists an engine of 9,600 cm³ for this model. The vehicle weighs 8,000 kg, is 8,400 mm long and 2,500 mm wide.
The 9.6-litre engine matches the diesel unit AEC developed for the Routemaster, which set the range apart from the smaller city buses of its era and gave the double-decker enough reserve power for its aluminium body and passenger load. As an airport version, the RMA was built to carry passengers together with luggage between the terminal and the aircraft, so the body received closed doors and extra luggage space instead of the open platform.
For a used example of this historic bus, check corrosion on the load-bearing aluminium frame and body, the condition of the engine and hydraulic gearbox, brake system operation, and the seals of windows and roof; parts today are only available through specialist restorers of British heritage buses.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
