ABB M3ARF – register of low-voltage standard motors from ABB's M3 platform: 30 versions, 0.75 to 22 kW, 2- to 8-pole, IP55, 400 V, made in Sweden and Spain
The M3ARF range belongs to ABB's global M3 platform for three-phase low-voltage standard motors, through which the group formed in 1988 from the merger of ASEA and BBC standardises its IEC motors worldwide. The model designation follows the pattern M3ARF/S plus frame size and pole count, for example M3ARF/S132S4 for the four-pole 132S version or M3ARF/S160L8 for the eight-pole 160L version.

The register lists here 30 versions with 0.75 to 22 kW, two- to eight-pole, at a uniform mains voltage of 400 V. Full-load efficiencies range from 80.9 to 93.3% and at 75% load from 79.3 to 93.9%. Frame sizes run from 80 to 180 under IEC, all motors carry protection rating IP55, mounting codes range from B3/B5/B35 to combinations with B14 and B34; manufacturing is mainly in Sweden, with further output from Spain and Italy, tested to AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 with test method B.
In the lower and middle power range, M3ARF competes with the standard-motor ranges of Siemens and WEG for applications in pumps, fans, conveyors and small compressors; manufacturing in Sweden and Spain places the range in the European core of ABB's low-voltage motor programme.
When buying used, what matters is bearing condition and a checked insulation resistance of the winding, visible overheating marks on the terminal box and fan cover, the condition of shaft and key, and a legible nameplate with frame size, pole count and efficiency figure. Spares and rewind service run through ABB's motor service network.

Frequently asked questions
How much power does the ABB M3ARF/S100LD4 have?
The ABB M3ARF/S100LD4 delivers 3 kW.
What to check before buying
- Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
- Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
- Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
- The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
- For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
- Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
