GMC is General Motors' commercial-vehicle brand, and the Vandura was its version of the big body-on-frame van, built for decades alongside a near-identical model from a sister brand and competing for the same customers with the Ford Econoline and the Dodge vans. STARCRAFT marks versions with a factory camping or travel conversion, TRAVEL VAN the corresponding travel equipment; digit strings such as 2500 give the payload class, and the appended letter-number codes such as EG25C come from vehicle registration.

The register lists here 17 versions with 114 to 123 kW, 4,300 to 6,335 cm³ displacement from six- and eight-cylinders, unladen weights from 1,809 to 2,500 kg, gross weights from 2,500 to 3,375 kg, lengths from 4,526 to 5,400 mm and widths from 1,950 to 2,150 mm.
The Vandura was North America's standard box van for trades, fleets and the booming conversion scene of the 1980s, in which firms such as Starcraft turned plain delivery vans into comfortable travel and leisure vehicles with seating, windows and a raised roof.
On used examples, the condition of the V6 or V8 engine, rust on sills and wheel arches, the automatic transmission, and, on Starcraft and Travel Van versions, the interior conversion, wiring and any raised roof all count, along with brakes and the steering box on the older model years; parts run through the GM dealer network.
