Compactor attachments such as the HC range compact trench backfill and subgrade in places poorly reached by walk-behind plate compactors, such as narrow excavation pits or along utility trenches; they complement excavator work in civil and utility construction, where digging, laying and compacting can all be done with the same carrier machine.

Compaction is produced by a hydraulically driven eccentric that sets the plate vibrating; centrifugal force and vibration frequency together determine how deep and how strongly a given soil can be compacted, with cohesive soils calling for different settings than granular backfill. The excavator's weight class is a precondition here, not just an accessory choice: only an excavator that is heavy enough and fitted with a suitable auxiliary hydraulic circuit can supply the compactor with the flow it needs and safely absorb the reaction forces at the arm.

On used examples, the condition of the compaction plate and its wear liner, the function of the vibration mechanism and its bearings, the tightness of the hydraulic motor, and the condition of the mounting bracket on the excavator arm all matter; spare parts and service run through the Epiroc dealer network.
