WEG K28 – three-phase standard motor from Jaraguá do Sul: MEPS register, 9.2 kW, four-pole, 415 V, efficiency up to 91%, frame sizes 132 to 160, IP55 protection
WEG of Jaraguá do Sul in Santa Catarina makes transformers, generators and drive technology alongside electric motors, supplying customers on every continent from there. This page gathers the five versions of the K28 range listed in the Australian MEPS register – ALE2, BRKLE2, EXDE2, EXNE2 and STDE2 – a three-phase motor at the upper end of the small power classes in WEG's standard-motor programme.

The register lists here five versions with 9.2 kW rated output, four-pole, for a 415 V supply. Full-load efficiency runs from 90.6 to 91%, and at 75% load from 89 to 91%. Frame sizes run from 132 to 160, protection is IP55 throughout, and manufacturing takes place in Brazil. Testing followed AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 with test method B; under the GEMS classification, none of the five versions reaches a High Efficiency Level. Mounting codes run from the foot forms B3, B5, B14, B34 and B35 through B6, B7 and B8 to the flange and vertical forms V1, V3, V5, V6, V15, V18, V19 and V36.
At close to 9 kW, motors of this frame size cover larger pumps, fans, conveying plant and compressors, common in industrial plants and water management; here WEG competes with ABB, Siemens and Toshiba for standard applications at the upper end of the lower power segment.
When buying used, what matters is bearing condition and a checked insulation resistance of the winding, visible corrosion or overheating marks on the terminal box and fan cover, the condition of shaft and key, and a legible nameplate with frame size, pole count and efficiency; on the larger 132 and 160 frame sizes it is also worth checking running noise and vibration in operation. Spares run through the WEG distribution network.

Frequently asked questions
How much power does the WEG K28 BRKLE2 have?
The WEG K28 BRKLE2 delivers 9.2 kW.
What to check before buying
- Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
- Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
- Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
- The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
- For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
- Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
