WEG lists the K20 ALE2 as a three-phase induction motor. The rated output is 5.5 kW. The motor is two-pole, which at 50 Hz gives a synchronous speed of 3,000 rpm. The rated voltage is 415 V. The housing is frame size 132 S in foot-mounted form. The protection class is IP55. The efficiency is 90.3 per cent at full load, 90.2 per cent at 75 per cent load and 88.4 per cent at half load. The motor weighs 60.5 kg. At full load it delivers 17.92 Nm. The motor is built in Brazil. The values are recorded in the Australian MEPS registration under standard AS/NZS 1359.5:2004; measured to IEC 60034-2-1 (Edition 2.0). Rated output across the WEG range ranges from 0.75 to 160 kW; the K20 ALE2 sits at the bottom of that range with 5.5 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the KTE198 PHEM below it with 4 kW and the K24 ALE2 above it with 7.5 kW. 433 WEG models are on record. The model is listed under Electric motors. 25 verified figures from 1 source are on file.

WEG K20 – electric motor frame family for Australian MEPS registration: seven Ex and standard versions of 5.5 kW, 2-pole, 415 V, efficiency 88.6 to 90.3%

The K20 frame size is a family of three-phase motors from the Brazilian maker WEG of Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, whose name is formed from the initials of its founders Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon João da Silva and Geraldo Werninghaus. Within the K20 frame size the register distinguishes standard versions (ST) from the two IEC 60079 standardised explosion-protection types Ex d (flameproof enclosure, DE) and Ex n (non-sparking, NE), plus the AL code for the aluminium-housing version; the K20/1 code marks a second build length of the same frame size.

The register lists here 7 versions with 5.5 kW at two poles and 415 V, efficiencies at full load from 88.6 to 90.3% and at 75% load from 88.5 to 90.2%, protection class IP55 and frame sizes from 112 to 132 to IEC, in the B3, B5, B14 and B35 foot mountings and the V1 to V36 flange versions, manufactured in Brazil and tested to AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 with test method B.

The K20 motors are part of the filings WEG makes for the Australian-New Zealand GEMS/MEPS market, whose minimum efficiency standards makers such as WEG regularly supply with new frame sizes and efficiency steps; the Ex-protected variants are aimed at use in hazardous areas such as refineries, chemical plants and mines.

On these industrial motors, the condition of the winding insulation, bearing condition and play, the tightness of the terminal box – especially important on the Ex versions – and the connection data on the rating plate count; spares and equivalent replacement motors run through the WEG distribution network.

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the WEG K20 ALE2 have?

The WEG K20 ALE2 delivers 5.5 kW.

What to check before buying

  • Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
  • Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
  • Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
  • The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
  • For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
  • Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
