Valmet – the Finnish tractors before the Valtra name (1951–2001): 500 to 885, Mezzo 6000, Mega 8000 and HiTech, Sisu engines from Linnavuori, 45 to 147 kW
Valmet was the Finnish state group – Valtion Metallitehtaat, State Metal Works – that built the first Finnish production tractor in 1951 at Tourula near Jyväskylä and moved to Suolahti in 1969, where Valtra still manufactures today. The Valmet name lasted until 2001; then the tractor division, merged with Sisu in 1994 as Valtra Valmet, was renamed Valtra. The register shows the programme of the 1980s and 1990s: the three-digit 500, 685, 700, 785 and 885 are the ranges of the 1980s, whose number orders the size class; the 6000 Mezzo (6400, 6800) and 8000 Mega (8150, 8450, 8950) from 1991 brought the new cab and the Sisu six-cylinders, HiTech the version with electronic powershift, S Premium and Megah equipment levels. The engines came from the sister plant Sisu in Linnavuori, which has built diesels since the 1940s and trades today as AGCO Power.

The register lists 15 versions with 45 to 147 kW (60 to 140 hp where output is recorded) from four- and six-cylinders up to 7,400 cm³, unladen weights from 4,120 to 6,060 kg and gross weights up to 11,900 kg – Sisu, MWM and Deutz engines depending on year.
Valmet stood for the tractors of the North: heated cabs for the Finnish winter, forestry versions with protective armour and the reverse-drive system with which the operator works backwards – features Valtra still carries today as TwinTrac and Forest versions.
Used Valmets are common in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe; when buying, engine condition, transmission and powershift on HiTech models, front axle and hydraulics and parts supply, secured through Valtra and AGCO Power, are what count.
