Sanwei lists the 18.5 as a three-phase induction motor. The rated output is 18.5 kW. The motor is two-pole, which at 50 Hz gives a synchronous speed of 3,000 rpm. The rated voltage is 415 V. The housing is frame size 160 L in foot-mounted form. The protection class is IP55. The efficiency is 91.8 per cent at full load, 91.2 per cent at 75 per cent load and 89.3 per cent at half load. Mounting arrangements to IEC 60034-7: B35, B5 and B3. The motor is built in China. The figures come from the Australian MEPS register under standard AS/NZS 1359.5:2004; measured to IEC 60034-2-1 (Edition 2.0). Rated output across the Sanwei range ranges from 0.75 to 22 kW; the 18.5 sits in the upper part of that range with 18.5 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the Y2160M2-2 below it with 15 kW and the 22 above it with 22 kW. 46 Sanwei models are on record. The model is listed under Electric motors. 22 verified figures from 1 source are on file.

Sanwei – other models: the collective page of MEPS-registered Y2 three-phase motors outside the named ranges, frame sizes 80 to 180, 0.75 to 22 kW, two- or four-pole, from China

This page brings together the three-phase motors from Sanwei that the Australian energy-efficiency register (GEMS/MEPS) does not assign to a named series. Type designations such as Y2-100L1-4 or Y2132S4 follow the Y2 standard series widespread in China for three-phase induction motors: the series code Y2 is followed by the IEC frame size, a letter for the frame length and the pole count.

The register lists here 36 versions with 0.75 to 22 kW, exclusively two- or four-pole, at a supply voltage of 415 V. Efficiency at full load ranges from 80.8 to 92.62%, and at 75% load from 79.5 to 92.53%. Frame sizes run from 80 to 180, almost all motors carry the IP55 rating, manufactured in China. Testing mostly followed the 2019 GEMS determination using test method B, a smaller share AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 using test method A; none of the motors reaches a High Efficiency classification under GEMS.

The page thus shows the base Y2 programme in the low-speed segment, exclusively two- and four-pole versions, with which Sanwei competes in the power band up to 22 kW against other Chinese standard-motor makers in the MEPS register.

When buying used, check the condition of the rolling bearings, a measured winding insulation resistance, visible overheating marks on the terminal box and fan cover, and a legible nameplate showing frame size, pole count and mounting code. Since none of the motors carries a High Efficiency classification, it is worth checking actual energy use under continuous duty before buying; bearings and terminal boxes for the IEC frame sizes are usually available independent of the manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the Sanwei 18.5 have?

The Sanwei 18.5 delivers 18.5 kW.

What to check before buying

  • Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
  • Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
  • Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
  • The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
  • For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
  • Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
