The Trafic started in 1980 as Renault's medium-sized van and, from the second generation (2001) onward, has been built in cooperation with Nissan (badged Primastar) and General Motors (badged Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro) at the shared plant in Luton (later also Sandouville/Sevel Nord); the third generation launched in 2014. The type designation in the register combines a four-digit payload/weight-class number (1000, 1200, and in places T29) with length (L1/L2) and height (H1/H2) codes and the engine designation – dCi denotes common-rail direct injection, the number after it the output in horsepower.
