The Opel Blitz is Opel's truck and van range from 1930 to 1975, named after the lightning-bolt logo the brand has carried since the 1930s. It was built initially at the Brandenburg an der Havel plant, which became Germany's most important truck plant for the Wehrmacht during the Second World War; after the war Blitz production restarted in 1952 at Opel's home plant in Rüsselsheim, with newly designed vans, flatbed versions and tippers in payload classes from 1.75 to 3.6 tonnes. The type designation gives the payload in tonnes in the first number, T stands for tonner, BE for versions with an extended wheelbase (Blitz Extra), and GH for fire-brigade and special chassis. The Blitz was powered by Opel's own four- and six-cylinder petrol engines.

In the 1950s and 1960s the Blitz was one of the best-selling trucks in West Germany and, as a fire-brigade, tradesman's and municipal vehicle, helped shape the streetscape; Blitz production at Opel ended in 1975, after which the commercial-vehicle business passed to licence-built Bedford and later Isuzu designs.
On surviving Blitz examples, corrosion on the frame, cab floor and wings, the condition of the carburettor and ignition system on the petrol engines, the brake system and axle suspension, and on fire-brigade conversions the completeness of the special equipment all count; spare parts are now only available through classic-vehicle specialists and as newly manufactured parts.
