The New Holland T4020 is a tractor from the New Holland 2WD Tractor series. Power comes from a four-cylinder engine; from 3.2 litres it draws 65 hp (47.7 kW). Rated output is reached at 2,300 rpm, so it works in the lower rev range.

Top speed is 38 km/h. Wheelbase is 2.12 m.

Within the range, rated power spans from 25 to 157 hp; with 64.9 hp, the T4020 sits in the lower third. Directly alongside are the Boomer 47 with 46.2 hp below and the TN70A with 71 hp above.

New Holland – other models: the collective page of tractors outside the named ranges, from the Fiat heritage (80-66, 110-90) through the Ford 40 and 70 series (7740, 8340, 8670) to the 9x82 and T9, 14 to 457 kW, NEF, Genesis, Iveco and Cummins engines

This page gathers the New Holland tractors the register could not assign to a named range – and it shows the brand's three roots: Fiat of Turin, Ford of Basildon and Versatile of Winnipeg. New Holland, founded in 1895 as a farm-machinery works in Pennsylvania, was joined with Ford Tractor in 1986 into Ford New Holland and bought by Fiat in 1991, which merged with Case as CNH from 1999; the blue tractors of the 1990s therefore carry three type logics. The Fiat types such as 80-66 and 110-90 give the hp class before and the series after the hyphen; the Ford 40 (5640 to 8340) and 70 (8670 to 8970) series from Basildon and Antwerp give the power in the middle digits and the series in the last, with SLE and SL as equipment lines; the articulated 9282 to 9882 and the later T9 come from Winnipeg and Fargo. From 2007 the T logic applies: T4 to T9 as ranges, the following digits as power (T6.140 about 140 hp). The engines are Fiat's 8000 series, Ford's Genesis, FPT's NEF and Cursor and Cummins in the articulated tractors.

The register lists here 578 versions with 13.8 to 457 kW from three- to six-cylinders of 954 to 15,001 cm³, PTO outputs from 15 to 530 hp, lift capacities from 574 to 8,900 kg, unladen weights from 652 to 25,401 kg, gross weights from 3,000 to 18,000 kg, lengths from 2,700 to 8,005 mm and widths from 1,082 to 4,060 mm.

New Holland is Europe's second-largest tractor brand after John Deere and in the top three in Italy, Spain, France, Britain and Turkey; the brand also carries the specialist tractors from Jesi and the Boomer compact class from Japan.

On used tractors, clutch and shuttle count on Fiat types, electronics and powershift on the Ford 40 and 70 series, transmission and tyres on the articulated tractors, and on the T ranges operating hours, common-rail injection and exhaust aftertreatment; parts run through CNH.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
