Mustang's mini excavators are the red twins of the Gehl mini excavators: since Gehl of West Bend took over the Mustang brand in 1997, skid steers and excavators were sold identically in yellow and red, and after Manitou bought both in 2008 that continued until Mustang was absorbed into the Manitou brand in 2020. The type logic: ME stands for Mustang Excavator, the number gives the weight class in hundreds of kilograms – ME1503 about 1.5 t, ME2203 2.2 t, ME3003 3 t, ME3703 3.7 t – the 03 at the end the series; the 2803ZT and 3803ZT are the zero-tail versions of the 2.8 and 3.8 tonne class that slew within the track width. The engines come from Yanmar – 3TNV76 of 1.1 litres in the small, 3TNV88 and 4TNV88 of 1.6 and 2.2 litres in the big models – to emission stage III.
