The TGX replaced the TGA in 2007 as MAN's top-of-range long-haul series and is built among other places at the home plant in Munich and at Niepołomice in Poland; a second generation followed in 2020 with a new cab and Euro 6d engines. The type number follows fixed MAN logic: the first two digits name the weight class in tonnes (18, 22, 24, 26, 28), the next three roughly the engine output in horsepower – an 18.440 has around 440 hp. The axle formula (4X2, 6X2, 6X4) describes drive and axle count, BL marks, under MAN's own naming, the construction version, LL the long-haul version, and EEV the voluntary pre-Euro-6 'Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle' emission standard. Engines are MAN's own in-line six- and eight-cylinder D20, D26 and D38 units.
