MAN TGA – predecessor to the TGX from 2000 to 2007/2008, the switch to common rail: type number from weight class and horsepower, in-line D08/D20/D28 engines up to 18,300 cm³, 228 to 485 kW
The TGA replaced the older MAN F2000 series in 2000/2001 and was MAN's top long-haul model until the TGX took over in 2007/2008; it introduced common-rail injection and a shared modular cab system with the L, LX, XL, XLX and XXL cabs. The type number follows the same logic as its successor: the leading digits give the weight class (18, 24, 26 tonnes and above), the last three roughly the output in horsepower, plus the axle formula 4X2, 4X4, 6X2 or 6X4. BL marks, under MAN's own naming, the construction version, LL the long-haul version, TS a trimmed special-equipment variant. Engines are MAN's own in-line D08, D20, D26 and D28 units, depending on power class.

The TGA marks MAN's shift from a traditional commercial-vehicle maker to a modern modular manufacturer; it competed with the Mercedes-Benz Actros, Scania 4-series/R-series, Volvo FH and DAF XF, and remains common today as a used long-haul or construction truck.
On used examples, check the injection pumps and injectors of the common-rail system, clutch and gearbox (ZF-AS-Tronic), frame corrosion especially on tippers and construction vehicles, cab mounting and sealing, and parts availability, which on the older TGA already relies partly on used parts.
