Komatsu's wheeled excavators carry the code PW – Power Wheel, the counterpart to the PC of the crawler excavators – and their history in Europe leads to Hanover: in 1989 Komatsu took over the German construction-equipment maker Hanomag, and at the Hanover-Linden plant the wheeled excavators PW130ES, PW150ES and PW170ES were built from the 1990s for the European market – Komatsu upper structures on undercarriages that used Hanomag's experience in wheeled-excavator building. The type logic: the number gives the weight class in hundreds of kilograms (PW75 about 7.5 t, PW150 15 t, PW210 21 t), ES marks the Hanover generation, R the short-tail version, N a market variant, -1, -2 and -6 the generations. The engines are Komatsu's own four- and six-cylinders: 4D94 and 4D98 in the small, 4D102 in the mid-range, S6D95 and S6D105 in the big models.
