The Multicar served East German municipal operators and farms mainly as a manoeuvrable universal vehicle for transport, sweeping and winter-service tasks, while the Phänomen Granit, a medium-duty truck, already belonged in the 1950s to the programme that preceded the later Robur plant in Zittau. The four-wheel-drive W 50 supplemented the civilian road programme with off-road versions for construction and forestry work.
