The FPT Industrial C3.4B 4282/2500 is a model in the C3.4B series. Production: 2014-2015. The fuel is 7-15 ppm Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. The rated output is 66 kW. The engine is turbocharged. The engine meets emissions stage Tier 4 (Final or Phase In). Fuel reaches the combustion chamber through direct injection. The charge air is air-cooled. Charging is by a wastegate turbocharger. It is a four-stroke diesel engine. The cylinders are arranged in line. The C3.4B series covers 14 models. Rated output within it ranges from 45 to 90 kW; the C3.4B 4282/2500 sits in the middle of that range with 66 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the C3.4B 4270/2200 below it with 63 kW and the C3.4B 4276/2200 above it with 70 kW. 784 FPT Industrial models across 4 series are on record.

FPT Industrial C3.4B – the 3.4-litre four-cylinder for Case and New Holland compact and telescopic loaders: 45 to 90 kW, Tier 4 final without particulate filter, model years 2013 to 2016

FPT Industrial is the engine division of the CNH group – descended from Fiat Powertrain and Iveco Motors – and the C3.4B is its engine for the compact class: a four-cylinder with 3.4 litres of displacement that runs in the skid steers, track loaders and telehandlers of Case and New Holland, as the register rows of those brands with the codes F5B and F5H prove. The numbers after the name are the certification power ratings with rated speed: 3748/2200 to 4282/2500 denote the versions registered in the EPA procedure, each with its rated speed of 1,800 to 2,500 rpm.

The register lists 14 versions with 45 to 90 kW at 1,800 to 2,500 rpm and peak torque from 243 to 490 Nm, all turbocharged, certified for model years 2013 to 2016 with ultra-low-sulphur diesel as the fuel requirement.

The special feature of the C3.4B is its emissions strategy: for EPA Tier 4 final and EU Stage IV the engine meets the limits in the lower ratings with cooled EGR and an oxidation catalyst without a particulate filter, in the upper ones with SCR – FPT marketed the SCR-only solution as a unique selling point because it saves regeneration cycles and filter replacement. The engine was developed in cooperation with Kohler and shares its basic design with Kohler's KDI range.

For operators and used buyers, the cleanliness of the EGR, the condition of the injectors where fuel quality was poor, urea dosing on SCR versions and the service history with the approved low-SAPS oils are what count.
