Ford E150 – the smallest Econoline: 4.6 to 5.8-litre V8s, Globemaster and Globestar versions, unladen weight up to 2.9 tonnes, gross weight up to 3.5 tonnes

The Ford E-150 is the smallest version of the American Econoline series, built since 1961 as a full van on its own frame and competing for decades directly with the vans of Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge. The number 150 places it in Ford's payload logic below the E-250 and E-350; ECONOLINE and ECOLINE are variant spellings of the same series name, VAN denotes the plain panel version, and GLOBEMASTER and GLOBESTAR are converted versions with extended travel equipment.

The register lists here 10 versions with 4,606 to 5,800 cm³ displacement from V8s throughout, unladen weights from 2,221 to 2,940 kg, gross weights from 2,948 to 3,500 kg and widths from 1,940 to 2,120 mm.

The E-150 was for decades one of North America's best-selling full-size vans and served as the base for trade, passenger and camper conversions; in Europe it arrived in small numbers as an import, mostly as the base for travel vehicles from a small local conversion scene modelled on American conversion-van businesses.

On used examples, the condition of the V8 (the 4.6-litre Triton with a timing chain or the more durable 5.8-litre unit), frame rust, the automatic transmission, and, on Globemaster and Globestar versions, the condition of the interior conversion all count, along with brakes, the steering and the seals of the large sliding door; parts run through the Ford dealer network.

What to check before buying
