Fiat Talento

Ducato, Boxer and Jumper are all built at the Sevel plant in Val di Sangro, near Atessa in Italy. Sevel stands for Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri, a joint venture between Fiat, now part of Stellantis, and the former PSA group (Peugeot/Citroën) dating back to 1978; the Atessa plant itself opened in 1981. Further badges have joined the same platform over the years, including the Ram ProMaster for North America, the Opel/Vauxhall Movano since 2022, and the Toyota Proace Max since 2023.

Within the Ducato range, a code made up of L and H letters distinguishes the body variants: L denotes the wheelbase or length class, from L1, shortest, to L4, extra-long, and H the roof height class, from H1, low, to H3, high. As a panel van, the Ducato is offered from the factory with three wheelbases — 3,000, 3,450 and 4,050 millimetres — combined with different roof heights, producing designations such as L1H1, L2H2 or L4H3. An L2H2, for example, is longer and taller than an L1H1 but shorter than an L4H3 — the letter combination mainly determines load volume and weight distribution, not the engine.

Fiat's smaller vans follow the same shared-platform logic. The Fiorino shares its engineering and body with the Citroën Nemo and Peugeot Bipper, built in Bursa, Turkey, by Tofaş. The Talento, sold from 2016 to 2020, was a technically near-identical Renault Trafic wearing a Fiat badge, while the Scudo generation sold since 2022 runs on the PSA EMP2 platform, making it a close relative of the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy, Opel Vivaro and Toyota Proace. The current Doblò, too, has not been a standalone Fiat design since around 2022 — it is a variant of the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter, Opel Combo and Toyota Proace City, built among other places in Vigo, Spain.

For a used-vehicle buyer, that shared engineering is genuinely useful: parts, repair manuals and sometimes recall information can often be found under the twin Peugeot or Citroën model when little turns up for the Fiat itself, since the engine, brakes and much of the running gear are identical. When choosing a Ducato body, it is worth checking the L and H code on the type plate, because the same model name has been sold with very different load-space lengths, and not every seller states the L/H code correctly in a listing.
