Model codes such as CPD or EFL follow a Chinese pinyin abbreviation system: in CPD, C stands for "forklift" (chache), P for the counterbalance design (pingheng), and D for electric drive (dianping) — so CPD30 is a counterbalanced electric forklift. The number attached to EP's codes consistently denotes rated capacity in tonnes; EFL181, for instance, is rated at 1.8 tonnes.

On the battery side, the practical difference is mainly lifespan and charging behaviour: lithium-ion cells manage roughly 2,000 to 3,000 charge cycles depending on the source, against 1,000 to 1,500 for lead-acid, and lithium can be topped up during the day without a cool-down break. For a used-forklift buyer that means a lithium unit with a high cycle count can still hold plenty of usable capacity, while an old lead-acid battery noticeably loses performance after only a few hundred cycles.

On the stated capacity, it is worth checking the load centre: the rated capacity on the data plate normally applies to the industry-standard 500 mm load centre measured from the fork face — the further the load's actual centre of gravity sits from the forks, the lower the real permissible load. Buying used should also include checking the mast for play and oil leaks and testing the lift and tilt cylinders under load.

In short, EP Equipment is a lithium specialist founded in 2007 whose model code carries the drive type and capacity directly. When buying used, charge cycles, mast condition and the real load centre matter more than the bare rated figure on paper. Checking the data plate and, where possible, the battery's cycle counter is no substitute for a test run under real load, though.
