Deutz-Fahr DX 6 series – the larger sister class of the 1980s: six-cylinder diesel engines, type number by power class, 72 to 100.8 kW, A four-wheel-drive version, gross weight up to 7,150 kg
The DX 6 series formed the class above the DX 4 and DX 5 models within Deutz-Fahr's 1980s range. The first digit after DX names the power class, the digits after the point the development stage (05, 10, 30, 50) in ascending power, and the A suffix marks the four-wheel-drive version. The engines are six-cylinder diesels from Deutz's own engine programme, built in Cologne.

The register lists here four versions with 72 to 100.8 kW (98 to 115 hp) from six-cylinder engines of 5,652 to 6,128 cm3 displacement. Unladen weight ranges from 4,530 to 5,480 kg, and one version reaches a permissible gross weight of 7,150 kg. Overall length sits between 4,464 and 4,560 mm, width between 2,210 and 2,370 mm, height between 2,650 and 2,820 mm. Torque ranges from 356 to 508 Nm at a rated speed of 2,300 to 2,400 rpm.
As the top class of the DX series, the DX 6 covered the segment for larger mixed and dedicated arable farms needing more pulling power for heavy tillage and bigger trailed loads than more compact four-cylinder models offered.
As with all air-cooled Deutz engines, the cooling fins, fan and fan belt need checking for dirt and damage. Also worth checking are the clutch, gearbox synchromesh, tightness of the hydraulics, lift linkage and PTO, and rust on the frame and front axle. Wear and engine parts are still supplied through the SDF/Deutz-Fahr parts network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
