Demag, which grew out of Duisburger Maschinenbau AG, has built mobile cranes since the 1960s and now operates as part of the crane group Tadano; the AC series denotes all-terrain cranes with road registration that, unlike lattice-boom crawler cranes, drive to the site on their own axles. The type number after AC roughly gives the maximum lifting capacity in tonnes, from the AC 40 with about 40 tonnes to the AC 700 with about 700 tonnes; suffixes such as -1, -2 or -5 mark the series generation, CITY the especially compact city cranes.
