DAF FA 2500 DHS 540L

The DAF F range replaced the older DAF 2100/2300 models in 1987, covering the entire medium and heavy line-up with different letter combinations; the FA code, by DAF's factory logic, denotes the two-axle chassis without a sleeper cab, used as a distribution truck, tipper or municipal vehicle. Model designations range from light versions later continued as the 7.5-tonne LF45 up to heavy four-axle and construction-site chassis; in the late 1990s the new LF, CF and XF ranges took over the naming of the DAF line-up. The register lists 208 versions with power outputs from 85 to 220 kW and four to six cylinders. Unladen weights range from 3,360 to 17,640 kg, permissible gross weights from 7,490 to 21,800 kg, widths from 2,190 to 2,600 mm. As the bread-and-butter chassis of the DAF range, the F series competed with the Mercedes-Benz LK/SK, the MAN F90 and the Iveco EuroCargo/EuroTech, and laid the technical foundation for the LF and CF ranges still built today. On used examples, important points are rust on the frame, cab mounts and tipper rams, the condition of the clutch and gearbox, the braking system including the load-sensing valve on tipper chassis, and – given the age of the range – the availability of spare parts, which increasingly runs through pattern parts rather than genuine ones.
