Caterpillar telehandlers TH and TL – from TH62/TH63 to TH580B and TL1255: the type logic of the European and US models, 60 to 101 kW
Caterpillar entered the telehandler market in the 1990s with the TH62, TH63, TH82 and TH83, which appear in the register in US and non-US versions – the number roughly gave capacity and lift height in tonnes and metres. From 2001 the TH210 to TH580B range followed, whose digits order the class: the first positions stand for capacity (TH330B about 3.3 t, TH460B about 4.6 t, TH580B about 5.8 t), the B for the generation; TH103 and TH406/TH407 are intermediate models for agriculture and construction. For North America there is the TL range – TL642, TL943, TL1055, TL1255 – by American convention: capacity in thousands of pounds and lift height in feet, so the TL1255 lifts 12,000 lb to 55 ft. For years the machines were built in cooperation with JLG; since 2016 Caterpillar has manufactured them itself again.

The register lists 28 versions with 60.4 to 100.6 kW from Cat four-cylinders of 4,000 to 4,408 cm³ – 3054, 3054T and 3054E on the older, C4.4 ACERT on the younger models – at 2,200 rpm rated speed, service weights from 4,899 to 16,168 kg and heights from 1,900 to 2,720 mm.
Telehandlers are tool carriers: forks, bucket, crane hook, work platform and bale grab swap on the quick coupler, and the load moment limiter cuts the boom before the machine tips. The Cat models are found above all on construction sites, in brick and builders' merchants and in agriculture.
