The MX 220 is a tractor from the Case IH MX series, which includes both the smaller MX‑Maxxum and the larger MX‑Magnum models. It is equipped with a six‑cylinder diesel engine of 8 268 cm³ displacement and a rated speed of 2 000 rpm. The machine measures 5 640 mm in length, 3 048 mm in width, 3 249 mm in height, has a wheelbase of 3 006 mm and a curb weight of 9 083 kg. Available transmissions are 18 V/4 R and 24 V/6 R, the top speed is 40 km/h, and the fuel tank holds 500 l. The lift category is Cat III and the pump speed is 540/1000 rpm.
With a power output of 224 hp (164.8 kW) and a maximum torque of 966 Nm, the MX 220 provides sufficient pulling force for demanding field tasks, while the high torque at low rpm is especially useful for heavy implements. The curb weight of 9 083 kg gives a stable ground pressure that prevents wheel slip under heavy load, and the 500‑liter tank allows long operating periods without frequent refuelling. The 18‑ and 24‑gear transmissions enable flexible speed selection from field work to transport.
Within the MX line the MX 220 ranks fourth of nine models by power (164.8 kW), positioned between the MX 135 with 101 kW and the MX 270 with 205.2 kW. By curb weight it ranks sixth of nine (9 083 kg), between the MX 110 at 6 375 kg and the MX MAGNUM 200 at 9 895 kg. The series power range spans from 82 to 233 kW, and the weight range from 5 500 to 10 350 kg.
Case IH MX – the Maxxum and Magnum range from Doncaster and Racine, six-cylinder diesel engines, 82 to 233 kW, models from MX 110 to MX Magnum 220, torque up to 966 Nm
At Case IH, the MX designation covers two related ranges: the smaller Maxxum MX models, built in Doncaster, England, and the large Magnum MX models such as the MX Magnum 200 and MX Magnum 220, from the Racine plant in the US state of Wisconsin. Both ranges replaced the preceding Case and Case IH ranges in the 1990s and marked the transition to today's Puma and Magnum naming; the digits after MX give roughly the output in hp.

The register lists here 15 versions with 82 to 233 kW (110 to 279 hp), all from six-cylinder diesel engines of 4,380 to 8,268 cm³ displacement and torque of 454 to 966 Nm at rated speeds of 2,000 to 2,200 rpm. Unladen weights range from 5,500 to 10,350 kg, permissible gross weight from 9,000 to 14,000 kg, lengths from 4,300 to 6,040 mm, widths from 2,012 to 3,048 mm and heights from 2,970 to 3,249 mm.
With this span, the MX range covered practically the entire field from multi-purpose tractor to large tractor for heavy tillage and competed directly with John Deere and Fendt in their respective power classes.
When buying an MX model used, transmission condition (synchro or powershift), hydraulic output, the four-wheel-drive transfer case on the large Magnum versions and corrosion on the cab and fenders rank among the key checkpoints; spare parts run through the Case IH dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
