Mercedes-Benz GLC – the compact SUV registered as N1: 4MATIC all-wheel drive, diesel, plug-in hybrid and petrol engines, 125 to 190 kW, built in Bremen and Beijing

The GLC is Mercedes-Benz's compact SUV built on the C-Class platform, in the range since 2015 as the successor to the GLK and in its second generation since 2022. It is built at the home plant in Bremen and, for the Chinese market, by Beijing Benz Automotive. The type designation combines a three-digit power class with a fuel-type suffix: “d” for diesel, “e” for plug-in hybrid, while pure petrol versions carry no suffix; 4MATIC denotes the all-wheel drive fitted as standard on most versions. The models in this register range from the GLC 200 d to the GLC 400 e 4MATIC and, as is common with SUVs in Denmark and the Netherlands, some are registered as light commercial vehicles of category N1, which is why the page appears among the vans.

The register lists here 12 versions with outputs from 125 to 190 kW, displacements from 1,950 to 2,987 cm³ across four to six cylinders, unladen weights from 1,804 to 2,355 kg, gross weights from 2,455 to 2,840 kg, a length of 4,670 to 4,740 mm and a width of 1,898 to 1,931 mm.

The GLC competes in the premium compact-SUV segment with the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60, and has been among Mercedes-Benz's best-selling models since launch. The plug-in hybrid versions marked d and e broaden the range with electric-range variants suited to city and commuting use.

On a used example, check the condition of the AIRMATIC air suspension where fitted, the shift behaviour of the 9G-Tronic automatic, on plug-in hybrids the condition and charging behaviour of the high-voltage battery, the timing chain of the M264-series petrol engines, and the brakes and transfer case of the 4MATIC drivetrain; parts run through the Mercedes-Benz network.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
