Meiller MHPS – tipper semi-trailers from the Munich manufacturer with roots to 1850: three-axle construction and recycling tippers, unladen weight 4,340 to 7,940 kg, gross weight up to 45,000 kg

F. X. Meiller is a Munich family business founded in 1850 by the blacksmith Lorenz Meiller that has specialised for generations in tipper bodies, tipper trailers and semi-trailers and the associated hydraulics. The MHPS range comprises three-axle tipper semi-trailers for construction, recycling and earthworks businesses, from the compact MHPS 42 with hydraulic pendulum flap to large-volume versions. As class O4 vehicles, the MHPS semi-trailers run air brakes with ABS or EBS and are subject to recurring roadworthiness testing; the semi-trailer tractor requires a category CE licence.

The register lists 13 versions here with unladen weights from 4,340 to 7,940 kg and gross weights from 33,000 to 45,000 kg; lengths run from 8,360 to 10,250 mm, widths from 2,450 to 2,550 mm.

As one of the established German tipper makers, Meiller's MHPS range mainly serves construction, earthworks and recycling companies that depend on ruggedness and quick availability of spare parts; the proximity to Munich's construction-machinery market and the bauma trade fair underlines its market position.

On used MHPS semi-trailers, check the condition of the tipping body and side walls for wear and cracks, the function of the tipping cylinder, hydraulic pump and controls, the tightness of the tailgate, the brakes and axles, and – on lift-axle versions – their lifting mechanism; Meiller-specific spare parts are readily available through the manufacturer and specialist dealers. The tridem axle group spreads the high payload across three axles, sparing tyres and road surface more than a tandem axle; the 2-inch kingpin is the common standard on these semi-trailers.

What to check before buying

  • Search the frame and welds at the axle mounts — that is where cracks start.
  • Check the brakes and the last inspection in the papers.
  • Work the gross weight against the towing vehicle before buying.
  • Compare the chassis number with the papers.
  • Look at the floor, cover or body from the inside — rust does not show from outside.
