When buying used, check the frame and sides for corrosion, the overrun brake and brake linings, axle bearings and tyres; on tandem-axle versions also check that both axles run evenly and the condition of the equalising suspension, as uneven wear here often leads to handling instability. On the long versions it is also worth checking the frame for twisting and the sides for cracking.
