This page gathers the medium-weight Mercedes-Benz trucks kept in the register as Ateco, introduced in 1998 as the successor to the earlier 709 to 1417 range and built at the Wörth am Rhein plant. At launch the programme already comprised around 25 basic types across six power ratings and four cab variants; type designations such as 815, 1222, 1224, 1529 or 1828 follow the logic usual for European trucks of weight class and engine power – the first one or two digits give the tonne class approximately, the following digits the output in hp. The range thus covered the whole field from the light 7.5-tonner to the nearly 18-tonne distribution truck and was named International Truck of the Year in 1999.
