Barkas V901 – the B1000 successor that never reached series production in Karl-Marx-Stadt: three-cylinder two-stroke of about 1 litre, 28 kW, prototype and pre-series versions up to 1.9 tonnes gross weight
Barkas was the East German commercial-vehicle maker in Karl-Marx-Stadt, today's Chemnitz, formed in 1961 out of the long-established Framo works and building the small B1000 van until 1991. The V901 was the vehicle developed to succeed the B1000, which never got beyond prototype and pre-series status before German reunification sealed the end of independent Barkas production. The variants carried in the register, V901/2, V901/3 and V901/20, stand for different trial and development stages of this last Barkas generation, the FRAMO suffix recalling the works' name before 1961; HP and R19 mark further test variants.
