With the M3GP 200MLA 6, ABB offers a three-phase induction motor in the M3GP series. The rated output is 18.5 kW. The motor is six-pole, which at 50 Hz gives a synchronous speed of 1,000 rpm. The housing is frame size 200. The protection class is IP55, IP56, IP65 and IP66. The efficiency is 92.4 per cent at full load, 92.5 per cent at 75 per cent load and 91.8 per cent at half load. Mounting arrangements to IEC 60034-7: B3, B5, B8, B35, V1, V3, V5 and V6. Stated countries of manufacture: India, Poland, China and Finland. The data is based on the Australian MEPS registration under the GEMS Determination 2019; measured to IEC 60034-2-1 (Edition 2.0). The M3GP series covers 262 models. Rated output within it ranges from 0.75 to 184.99 kW; the M3GP 200MLA 6 sits at the bottom of that range with 18.5 kW. Its immediate neighbours are the M3GP 200MLA 8G below it with 15 kW and the M3GP 180 MLA 2H above it with 22 kW. 2141 ABB models across 12 series are on record.

ABB M3GP – non-sparking cast-iron motors for zones 2 and 22 (Ex nA/Ex ec, Ex t): frame sizes 80 to 355, 0.75 to 185 kW, IP55 to IP66

M3GP is the Ex version of ABB's cast-iron motor for hazardous areas where a gas atmosphere is unlikely: zone 2 (gas) and zone 22 (dust). The protection type is called 'non-sparking' in the standard – formerly Ex nA, since IEC 60079-7:2015 Ex ec – or Ex t for protection by enclosure against combustible dust. Unlike the flameproof M3JP, an ignition is not contained but prevented by design: no sparks or hot surfaces arise in normal operation. That makes the M3GP the standard for refineries, tank farms, chemical plants and mills outside zone 1.

The type code follows the series pattern: M3 for motor and generation, G for the cast-iron frame in Ex execution, P for process performance, then frame size, frame length and number of poles. The register holds 262 versions from frame size 80 to 355 with 0.75 to 185 kW, two- to eight-pole; full-load efficiencies run from 74.1 to 97.2 %, protection from IP55 to IP66. Rated voltages of 415 to 690 V are recorded – most registrations name Finland and Poland as manufacturing locations.

The technical data match the M3BP because the Ex version is built on the same active part; in addition, temperature class (usually T3), gas group (IIA to IIC) and the type-examination certificate under ATEX or IECEx are stated on the rating plate.

When replacing: protection type, zone and temperature class must match the installation, inverter duty needs an explicit approval, and repairs may only be carried out by certified Ex workshops.

Frequently asked questions

How much power does the ABB M3GP 200MLA 6 have?

The ABB M3GP 200MLA 6 delivers 18.5 kW.

What to check before buying

  • Match the data plate against the order: frame size, mounting and rating have to agree.
  • Check the ingress rating against the installation site — outdoors or in dust the demands differ.
  • Hold the mounting form and dimensions against the existing seat before ordering.
  • The pole count sets the speed — when replacing an older unit, compare this first.
  • For used units, ask about winding condition and bearing play.
  • Ask about parts availability for this series — the running costs hang on it.
