ABB M3GP – non-sparking cast-iron motors for zones 2 and 22 (Ex nA/Ex ec, Ex t): frame sizes 80 to 355, 0.75 to 185 kW

M3GP is the Ex version of ABB's cast-iron motor for hazardous areas where a gas atmosphere is unlikely: zone 2 (gas) and zone 22 (dust). The protection type is called 'non-sparking' in the standard – formerly Ex nA, since IEC 60079-7:2015 Ex ec – or Ex t for protection by enclosure against combustible dust. Unlike the flameproof M3JP, an ignition is not contained but prevented by design: no sparks or hot surfaces arise in normal operation. That makes the M3GP the standard for refineries, tank farms, chemical plants and mills outside zone 1.

The type code follows the series pattern: M3 for motor and generation, G for the cast-iron frame in Ex execution, P for process performance, then frame size, frame length and number of poles.
